"Chair massage keeps illnesses down,        productivity up"
Employee Benefit News

..."The economy has improved a little, and companies are taking the money and reinvesting it in their employees. They see the increased productivity, and it just benefits everybody."

Chair massages can reduce stress, pain and fatigue. They also can alleviate symptoms of depression, improve function of the immune system, and increase workers' ability to concentrate, according to Lee Shulman, massage company owner.

"Chair massage has been shown to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation while simultaneously enhancing alertness," he states. "Chair massage recipients showed increase speed and accuracy on math computations. Alleviation of depression and reduction of job stress scores have been cited as additional benefits."

"We create an environment, so employees can really escape from the work day and just take a moment to let the stress melt away," he adds. "They return revitalized and refreshed."

EMPLOYERS FOCUSING ON MANAGING THE DEMAND FOR HEALTH CARE According to New EBRI Report

Among the report's findings:
  • Work site health promotion and wellness programs are often viewed positively by workers and can have long-term benefits for employers beyond cost containment. Demand management can benefit employers by leading to increased productivity, employee retention, and employee morale and reduced turnover, absenteeism, and future medical claims -- ultimately lowering expenditures on health care.

Definition:

Stress is an individual's physical and mental reaction to environmental demands or pressures.

Stress-related disease, however, results from excessive and prolonged demands on an organism's coping resources. It is now believed that 80–90% of all disease is stress-related.

When you consider the results of recent studies appearing in the mass media, you can see the benefits of relieving stress. Consider the possibility that up to 90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints; up to 80 percent of industrial accidents are due to stress; more than 50 percent of lost workdays are stress-related; and 14 percent of workers say stress has caused them to quit or change jobs. Another study reveals that stress on or off the job costs U.S. companies an estimated $200 billion a year in reduced productivity, accidents, compensation claims, absenteeism, employee turnover, health insurance and medical expenses.

Studies show that every $1 spent on a wellness program translates into a $3+ savings for the company.
